Benefits of Chamomile

Are you stressed up to your eyeballs?  Is anxiety taking over your life?  Hard to sleep at night?  Episodes of insomnia?  Constant headaches?  Struggling with cancers in your body?  Or even horrible menstrual cramps?  Relax with a hot cup of chamomile tea.

What is Chamomile?

Chamomile also known as matricaria recutita, is an herb which is used to treat various health issues for hundred of years.    The major active component in chamomile is alpha-bisabolol, which is basically a colorless viscous oil, possessing anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, healing and soothing properties.  The secondary active component in chamomile tea is apigenin, which is a bioflavonoid (nutrient), having anxiety reducing effects.  Amongst the other twenty phytochemical components in chamomile, the nutrients are just as important to the healing properties of this amazing herb.  The main nutrient is choline, which is an essential nutrient, which is vital to bodily function and human health.  It is important for nerve function, liver function and brain function.  Chamomile also contains vitamins B1 (thiamine), B3 (niacin) and C (ascorbic acid).  These vitamins are essential for nerve, glucose, heart, immune, skin and muscle function.  See how so much goodness for our bodies are in this one herb?  Yassssss!!!

Calming anxiety and stress!

Chamomile tea has amazing compounds that promote relaxation and aid in preventing panic attacks.  It helps calm the nerves when we get anxious and even stressed.  When we are so anxious and stressed we can’t sleep and can’t eat, we cause our bodies to be susceptible to other diseases.  The main components of chamomile help the nervous system go into a relaxed mode, while working on other areas of the body for overall good health.

  • Drink a cup or two of chamomile tea straight (which is caffeine free anyway!  YAY!) when you feel anxious, stressed or having episodes of insomnia.

Relieves headaches!

With about 100 million nerve cells in our brain, how can we not have something irritate us in that area sometimes.  There are many reasons that cause headaches, but the one I want to discuss is a tension headache.  A tension headache usually starts from the forehead to the back of the neck.  Pain all over your head and neck, preventing you from sleeping while experiencing muscle aches.  Apigenin in chamomile helps with the neurological aspects of our bodies.

Prevention of Cancer and Cancer Therapy!

Cancer is a nasty thing we’ve been hearing more often nowadays.  Almost everything we breathe, eat, drink, touch…can be a potential cause of this disease.  The component apigenin, helps fight various cancer cells, as well as skin cancer.  Chamomile helps with the prevention of cancers and also the therapy of those who are struggling with cancer already.  Don’t you know what you put in your body, emanates through your skin.  The skin being the largest organ, can be susceptible to many aliments, therefore we need to keep it protected as well as our inward parts.  Using chamomile topically is usually in an oil form.  When applied to the skin, it reduces redness, inflammation, and dryness of the skin.  TRY CHAMOMILE OIL TODAY!

Relieves menstrual cramps!

The best thing since sliced bread.  HAHA!   Chamomile tea has helped so much in soothing the monthly cramps from Mother Nature.  When the uterus is contracting, the pain of it shedding its lining can be decapitating sometimes.  The healing components in chamomile are amazing during this time of the month.  Not only does chamomile help with the nerves, but it also calms the muscles (the uterus in this case).  A cup or two of chamomile tea will ease those cramps in no time!  Try it and let me know what you have experienced.

Note:  Please do not consume if you are pregnant or nursing; allergic to ragweed; or taking medications, such as warfarin or cyclosporine.
